I’m fed up with all the players and their fancy stuff. I want my own.
The first thought about this topic were. Cool HTML5 can stream shit so everything is fine. I wrote the frontend in HTML/Ajax/CSS and it streams the music from my backend.
The first prototype was cool. Using jPlayer as prototype, referring to a quickly prototyped backend in perl. Voila: Music from harddisc directly to my ears.
But here comes the trouble:
- I’m bad at design. And with “bad” I mean very bad. And by “very bad” I mean terrible. So HTML/CSS and I enemies at first sight.
- Drag&Drop in HTML? Layout stuff in HTML/CSS? Have fun!
- Global hotkeys are nearly impossible because your player runs in the Firefox “sandbox”.
